Thurrock-September 2010 results

After a great start in August, my players are going to approach upcoming games with confidence sky high in September. There are four matches to be play in September. Three league matches and one FA cup qualifying round. Here is the fixtures and results..

My players performed extremely well in these games, we are potent and efficient in attack and our defence is organised and very tight, eleven goals were scored and only one conceded.

vs Basingstoke 3-1
We are slightly favorites for this match, i take a look on their players and decided to go for a standard strategy. From the start, both teams are trying to gain possession and the midfield area saw a lot of the ball. Few chances and shots were created. Chris Black is not playing well, i made a substitute with Loui Fazakerley in half time.Things doesn’t change better in the second half and i made my last two substitutions in  the 73rd minute replacing Simon Heslop (carrying a minor knock) and Jack Jeffrey with Matt Paine and Jamie Garry. Never did i thought that just when the game is heading for a draw, a turn of the events in the last six minutes changed the results entirely. After some one touch passing in the middle, Loui Fazakerley is put through by Wayne Graves, dribbling pass a defender and scored his first goal for the club. But Basingstoke immediately hit back with a freak goal. An attempted cross to the goal area hit the underside bar and went in. It was 1-1. That spurred my players into the action again and Jamie Garry scored a powerful shot from 35 yard two minutes later after receiving a pass from Matt Paine. I thought that was it, we got the winner but Jamie Garry was in the nick of action again in injury time, he scored again at the edge of the area after some nice work from Paul Hakim. My substitutes had won the game for us today. The final score 3-1.
Some bad news regarding Simon Heslop, he is out injured for 2-3 weeks.

vs Bath 3-0
After the last win, i employed a control strategy for this match as i have a lot of confidence with my players now. We were magnificent in the first half  scored three goals inside 30 minutes. First goal came at the courtesy of Paul Hakim when he collect a delightful pass from Matt Paine and place the ball in at the far corner which their goalkeeper has no time to react. It was 2-0 two minutes later after their defender scored a own goal. Again Paul Hakim is the architect, he sent a teasing cross from the right, due to a challenge by Matt Paine, the ball was put into their own net. Third goal came in the 30th minute, a nice through ball to the penalty area by Josh Falkingham, Paul Hakim yet again shake off his defender to scored his second goal of the game.

vs Sutton Utd 2-0
This is a match which we were very lucky to win as Sutton totally dominate the game something i never expect as they are playing non-league football in the previous season. I got my goalkeeper Scott Tynan to thank for, time and time again he kept us at bay and always come out top during one to one situation. We scored the goals through Matt Paine and Paul Hakim after quick counter attacking by my players. Luck play a very important in football and this game really justifies this. The scoreline really flattered us and Sutton Utd was very unlucky to lose this match. This is our seven win in a row, a remarkable achievement by my players.

vs Waltham Abbey 3-0
A fairly easy game against a non-league side in this FA cup 2nd qualifying round. We dominate the whole match and Jamie Garry, Matt Paine and Jack Jeffrey scored to give us the win. But i got another injury casualty after the game, Josh Falkingham has a injury which is going to rule him out for at least 8 weeks. That is a blow. Luckily Simon Heslop is back and close to full fitness so at least for now i have a able replacement whom can do the job in the middle of the park.

After eight game played, my team is sitting comfortably at the top of the table, seven points clear from second place. But i must ensure that my players are not complacent, any bad results in the coming month will cause us to lose grip on the promotion. i do not want to see that happen. At the moment, i will let the players enjoy the month and have some champagne. I hope they will come back even stronger next month.

I won my second manager of the month award after leading my team to win all the games in September.

Cream of  the corp for this month who has performed incredibly well are Matt Paine and Paul Hakim. I was particular pleased with Matt Paine as he really put in some fine performances which make me very difficult to rotate him. He scored 2 goals and make 4 assists in this month. I believe he is the player of the month for us, but Paul Hakim scored 3 goals and made 1 assist and he is awarded player of the month for September.

Another unbeaten month and we are leading comfortably on the table, i just hope that we can avoid any more injuries to my key players. If there is no injuries, we should have a very good chance to promote to the Blue Square Premier this season.

  1. Well done. That's very impressive, and nice to see you can manage to pick up victories you don't even deserve. That's exactly what you need, and hope you can keep it going.

  2. Thank you very much for your comment. I just hope that the loss of Josh Falkingham does not affect us too much in the next two months.
