Thurrock-February and March 2013 results

Hello friends, as i forgot to save the table for February, i decided to play one more month. So this post will be a combination of February and March results. After the games in January we are currently lying in 2nd place with 1 point behind the leaders Accrington. With injuries to my 2 first choice central defenders, we had the tendency to concede quite a number of goals. The defence definitely need to be tighten up while they were out.

As this will be the results of two months, i wouldn’t want to describe every match in detail as the post will be extremely long. Lets take a look at the results.

February

Feb resultsAs i mentioned in my last post that the opposition we faced in February was not too strong, we produced the form shown in early season and won all of our games.  Hereford and Tamworth provide us with some resistance but Izale Mcleod is in the form of his life at the moment. He had 2 hat-tricks consecutively in these two games. I am still a bit concerned on the defence as we concede 4 goals. Luckily our strikers was doing the job else we could have lost. Against Lewes and Baintree was easier as we were more superior than them in terms of squad quality. We won 2-0 against Lewes and ran out 3-1 winner in Baintree.

This was a happy month for us as i was awarded the manager of the month award and we leapfrogged Accrington to be at the top of the table after the fine form in February. From this month onwards, i had benched Marc Richards as he is woefully out of form and handed Thomas Hitchcock his chance. He grabbed it with both hand and was working well with Izale Mcleod. He was awarded his first young player of the month due to his fine performances.

March

Mar resultsWe had mixed results in this month gaining 2 wins and 2 losses. We deserved to lose against York as we never really get going and they were the far better team in this game. I certainly never expect to lose against Dover as they were currently lying in the bottom half of the table. The game is lost due to individual mistake by my player that allow them to score the winning goal. We had good wins over Chelmsford the team doomed for relegation and Forest Green that we totally dominate the game.

tableAfter the results in March, i was surprised to find that we are lying on top of the table with 4 points ahead of 2nd place Accrington and with 1 game in hand. It shows that my rivals are dropping a lot points in these 2 months which was certainly good news for us. We also confirm a play-off place after 39 fixtures. Cheltenham had crawled their way back to the title race after some fine performances. Although we were in a comfortable lead, but there will be no margin for error going into the last stage of the title race as 1 or 2 poor results is going to surrender our lead to our rivals.

For the last month of the season, we will be playing 7 games 1 more than all our rivals. There will be some concern on the match fitness side and i need to rotate the players a bit to maintain the fitness level.  The most important game of all will be against Accrington, we need to raise our game against them as they are not an easy opponent.

There you go my friends, my latest updates on my Thurrock story. Thank you for reading and next post will be the last post of 2012/13 season. I will see you then.

  2. Thanks Calum, i am quite please with what we achieved these 2 months. If we keep on performing like that, i am pretty sure we can achieve promotion to league 2.

  3. Even with the two defeats, a good couple of months there to take you back to the top of the league. I hope the players can keep going through the next busy month. The result of the Accrington game could well the key to winning or losing the title race. Good luck.

Unfortunately there’s no knowing when players will suddenly make mistakes, and quite often the worst ones come against weaker teams, when I think the players relax a bit too much.

  4. Thanks TheZiggy, we will be playing Accrington after few games, so i need to ensure we pick up maximum points before facing them. That will still allow us for some cushion even we had a bad game against them.
Maybe its complacency, the mistake was made by my most reliable player Kevin Macdonald. But luckily it doesn’t happen too many times.

  5. Hello Lye
Excellent two months there and well done for securing a play off spot. I think you have a good chance of winning the title. Izale Mcleod seems to be on fire for you. I’m cheering for you mate!

  6. @Laxeyman,
Thanks Laxeyman, i am feeling quite confident as compared to our rivals, i think we have an easier fixtures. The only worry is that whether my players have the mental and physical strength to last till season ends.

  7. @Kevin,
Thanks mate, if Izale Mcleod keep on performing like he is now, i am pretty sure we will win the title. He is amazing looking at how he always managed to leave his defenders behind on many occasion to score for us.
