FM-Britain the team behind the popular ‘tactical theorems ’10′ has recently released a premium ebook name Communications & Psychological Warfare ’10 on 16th March. I am very honored to receive a review copy from FM-Britain. Many thanks to them for their generousity.
So what does the CPW ’10 has to offer to you? First lets take a look on a famous quote in the introduction by the late Brian Clough former Nottingham Forest manager.
Players lose you games, not tactics. There’s so much crap about tactics by people who barely know how to win at dominoes.
The quote really tells you what the ebook is all about. Battles may be won by tactical decision but you need to win the war by building on strategy. Communications and psychological warfare in the FM world decide on the long term results of your management career. It basically narrow down to three areas.
- How to increase your match performance – Communication
You will find all the guides that help to increase your match performance in this chapter. What team talks would you normally give in a normal match, in a cup match or against your derby rivals? Has your team talks fast becoming a routine and predictable? Is the players getting sick and tired of your one dimensional approach and doesn’t seem to be listening to what you say? What should you tell your players when your team is falling behind to a goal or crusing comfortably during half time team talks? The guide has it all for you. It gves you an insight of how to motivate your team to perform better and better prior match preparations even if odds is firmly against you. It can’t guarantee you wins but at least maximising your players potiential to perform to their very best.
- How to improve your squad management skills – Psychological
How is your management skills like? Do you normally take a harsh approach or soft approach towards your players? Needless to say, there are a bulk of players to handle in a team and different players has different personality. You can’t possibly take a one route approach towards all the payers. Every players will react differently to your comments. Not everone can be Sir Alex or Arsene Wenger for their magnificent man-management skills. In this chapter you will learn about how to judge player personality based on their reactions to the comments that you have made. It will give you an idea on individual approach to individual players. The purpose of the whole idea is to create a happy, gel and highly motivated squad that will bring your team great results week in week out.
- How to use the media to interact with other players or manager and playing mind games – Warfare
Do you like playing mind games with your rival managers every now and then? Or do you prefer to make a lot of friends with your counterparts in the FM world? Football has seen its fair share of feuds and Sir Alex is definitely the master of psychological warfare. How many times have we seen the opposition manager such as Kevin Keegan, Arsene Wenger and Rafael Benitez subcumbed to the mind games of Sir Alex Ferguson and lost their plot during the closing season? Whether to make friends or enemies, its all up to you. You can also interact with your potiential transfer targets and unsettled them before making a bid for them. The guide here will list down all the results of whatever approach you have chosen so ultimately you are still the one in control. Its up to your choice whichever approach you want to take.
During the times when i play football manager, i tend to overlook on the psychological side of the game while mainly focusing on tactics and results. After reading CPW ’10, i would say i tend to be more attentive on my match comments and start taking note of player interactions. My opinion for this ebook, it does make a difference. For example in a match in my Thurrock story, my team talk approach is always a one route approach for all players as i never bother to have individual comments for the players. Once i try to ask one of my defenders to prove a point during half time team talk when he has a terrible 6.1 rating in the first half. He reacts well and perform better in the second half and got a rating of 7.3 when the match ends. I wonder what will be his rating if i use the comments for the whole team which is please. But need to take note that the advice mentioned in the ebook doesn’t apply to all the players. This all depend on the players personality and hidden attributes within them in your team. You need to have some trial and error to understand your players and give comments differently.
As what it shows in my post title, CPW ’10 really gives a touch of human nature to your simulated FM game. Through interaction with the players, we will know what is on his mind and handle him with a appropriate way as like in the real FM world.
