West Ham August – December 2021 Results – Clinical Leandro

Hello friends, here is another episode of my West Ham report for you. After the disappointment of losing the community shield to our fierce rivals Man City, i am hoping for a good start in the league. We are going to make further history by lifting the Premiership title fifth time in a row if we can win it. Traditionally, we will start with the League Cup which we had plenty of success in recent seasons.

League Cup

This is a cup i wouldn’t hesitate to win as history suggest we are the huge favorites to retain the cup. The draw in the first three round has been rather kind to us. Throwing in plenty of backup players of the first team, we stepped up to the task and progressed to the semi-finals at the expense of Portsmouth, Tottenham and Wigan. Our semi-final opponent is Wolves whom we should have no problem beating.

European Super Cup

Paris St Germain was the Euro Cup winner last season. They were our opponents in this year’s European Super Cup. Though we were the better team but they took the lead just before half time. Anthony Crosso headed the equalizer five minutes after the break and both teams couldn’t find the breakthrough in normal time. Leandro and Carabina put us in the driving seat to take the lead 3-1 in extra time but Paris St Germain pulled another goal back one minute after Carabina’s goal. We did held on and won the European Super Cup when the referee signed the match had ended.

Champions League

We will defend our CL trophy starting in the group stage where our group opponents are SLB, Shakhtar and APOEL. It was an easy group in my opinion and i expect us to advance to the next stage fairly easy.

Results

What can i say? A perfect campaign. 24 goals scored and only 1 conceded. We qualified to the knockout stage easily when we will meet Paris St Germain in the next stage. We defeated them earlier on in the European Super Cup and we should be the favorites to go through.

Club World Championship

This is a minor competition in our calendar but i still sent in our strongest squad. We brushed aside Monterrey 3-1 and produced the biggest win in the final. We demolished Brazilian club Internacional 9-0 and lifted our third CWC trophy. Leandro who was scoring for fun was nominated as the best player in the competition.

Premiership

We have a wonderful season so far. Out of 18 games in the first half of the season, we fired blanks in just one game against Birmingham who hold us to a goalless draw. The rest of the games saw us grab 17 wins. We are simply unbeatable at the moment. Leandro is enjoying his debut season with us as you can see his name keeps appearing under the scorers.

We are leading the table with Man City three points behind us but the lead could extend to six points if we win our game in hand. This season seems to be a two horse race between us and Man City as Man Utd is lying in 3rd place trailing by eleven points.

Players Rating

Leandro is truly a world class striker. Half the season gone and he has scored 36 goals in all competitions. Anthony Crosso is also having a great season. He is similar to Ryan Shawcross who defends well and managed to head in plenty of goals up front. The team is having fun this season as majority of the players have a rating of more that 7.00.

I am very optimistic with our season as we seem capable of beating any team in the world. If Leandro and Crosso can stay injury free, we have a high chance of making a clean sweep on all the trophies this season.

Update on England

We are preparing for the qualifiers for the next competition which is the World Cup qualifying matches. We were drawn in group 2 with Ukraine, Belarus, Israel, Georgia and Liechtenstein. Some of the matches were played in 2020 and below are the results.

Simply excellent form we showed here. We qualified to the World Cup finals with flying colors. 10 wins out of 10 games. There’s no stopping us from our group opponents. We were expected to qualify but the media and the fans were surprised at our results. The finals will be held in Qatar and shortly after the qualifying matches, the draw was made.

We are place in group D and will be facing Holland, Nigeria and Saudi Arabia. I think we have a great chance of finishing on top as Holland is not as strong as in the past. Nigeria and Saudi Arabia should not cause us too many problems. The FA clearly feels the draw was a good one.

I guess that pretty all sums up my updates today. Everything is going well and i am clearly looking forward to how we and England finish in 2022. Thanks a lot for reading and i look forward to your comments.

  1. After the disappointment in the Community Shield, the lads have hit imperious form, taking everyone apart, with the exception of Birmingham, who I guess set out to defend and managed to complete the job of frustration.

Good job with the England team as well, to win every single match in the qualifying stages. The group draw looks quite good as well, so getting through to the knockout phase should be no problem.

    • Thanks Ziggy, the game against Birmingham was a misery. Guess it was one of those off days. We dominated the whole match but didn’t seem capable of putting the ball in the net.

I hope we have better luck this time. My target is a semi-final finish at least. Other than that i would be very disappointed.

  2. An excellent set of results there Lye, your lads are truly on song and this season looks full of silverware, not to mention your International career is heading in the right direction.

    • Thanks Kevin, this is surely the strongest team West Ham ever seen. Hopefully we will see success in the coming international tournament.
