Thurrock Season Summary

Hello friends, here is a brief summary of how our season goes so far.

2009/10 Season

This is our 1st season in the Blue Square South, the media expected us to finish last out of 22 teams. So the aim is to stay up and establish ourselves as the players we signed are not enough to bring us promotion. I thought we did quite well getting a 11th place when the season ends considering the board expects us to fight against relegation. Next season is to improve the squad and challenge for the promotion spot next season.

2010/11 Season

Our second season had largely been successful due to the fact that we finished as Blue Square South Champions and gaining promotion to Blue Square Premier. The players whom have been brought in did their job well and we finished the season with 91 points. A massive achievements for the club and the fans and they are ecstatic about the club playing in Blue Square Premier next season. One division up means we are facing more difficult opponents and we need to bring in quality player to fight for survival.

2011/12 Season

Before the start of life to Blue Square Premier, i brought in quite a number of quality players including loans. The expectations of the board and fans is to stay up and fight against relegations. But i had confidence with my team and felt that they could achieved more. We ended up finished 7th place missed out on a play-off spot that had gone down to the last few games. I was certainly disappointed but with a few additions player in, next season will be very exciting for us.

2012/13 Season

For the new season, i brought in a couple of strikers and wingers to strengthen the team. As a result, we fired ourselves up to the summit of the Blue Square Premier and gain a direct promotion to league 2. Izale Mcleod the striker who had came in was absolutely amazing scoring 37 goals in all competition. We turned professional after the promotion which is a welcome news to the fans. There is a lot of quality teams in league 2 and i hope we can survive in our first season there.

2013/14 Season

This is our first season in league 2 and we got a 6th position in our debut season. After signing few players for free and from loans, we were able to mount a challenge to the title shot. Our performance in the first half of the season was superb, but due to injuries and poor performance, we faded off in the final stages to the season. We got into a play-off place and play Stockport. We lost an aggregate of 1-5 over two legs to a better side and that conclude our debut season in league 2.

2014/15 Season

This is our second season league 2 and it was sorts fairytale for us. For the whole season we had been hovering in the play-off places and struggling to find our foothold for the automatic promotion spot. But the good run for us between March-May coupled with the poor form of Tranmere and MK Dons had saw us leapfrogged them into 3rd place and gain promotion to league 1. The fans and the board were absolutely ecstatic and Thurrock will be soon facing the league of Charlton, Norwich, Sheffield Wednesday and Coventry  in league 1.

2015/16 Season

Our first season in league 1 ended up in a disappointment missing out on a play-off place. We were actually lying at the top in the first half of the season which had definitely exceeded the expectations of the board, fans and the media. We faded off in the last few months losing a number of games and we ended up lying in 7th position. Although we miss out on the play-off spot but i thought we did really well in our debut season. Hopefully with a couple of quality signings in we will be better equipped to challenge for the promotion next season.

2016/17 Season

Our second season in the league started off with a couple of signings and loanees. We got off to a very good start leading the table for 7 months until February when we were overtaken by Swansea after suffered a slump in form. However we wouldn’t want to lose our efforts and we rally well enough to hold off the challenge of 3rd place Nottingham Forest to win a spot to promotion to the Coca Cola Championship. It was a pity that we lost the title to Swansea by them having better goal difference. We are one step closer to the Premier league but it would be tough in the Championship. I hope we can survive and have a good season with some quality signings in.

2017/18 Season

Our first season in the Championship was definitely a good learning platform for us facing quality players week in week out. We performed well in the early months hovering in the play-off places but inexperience and a loss of form saw up suffering a poor run of results and we started sliding down the table. We managed to achieve a mid-table position when the season ends lying in 12th place out of 24 teams. We had definitely exceeded the expectations of the board and the fans and we need to add few quality players to mount a serious challenge for the promotion spot next season.

2018/19 Season

After signing several new players and bringing some young players on loan from various clubs. Lets see whether there is any improvement in our second season in the Championship. We managed to score loads of goals having the best attack but our defence was also one of the worst. This is mainly the reason why we are lying in 11th position when the season ends. Portsmouth, Bristol City and Brighton had won promotion to the Premier League while there is relegation sadness for Southend, Preston and Bolton.

2019/20 Season

We continued our charge in the Championship for the third season in a row hoping that we can win promotion this time round but it ended up is yet another disappointment. Our problems this season had been the attackers unable to convert the chances come our way. We had not seen any improvement in our defence as we concede 71 goals when the season ended. We need to look for reinforcements again for next season and hopefully it will turn out 4th time lucky for us.

2020/21 Season

We had a slow start to the new season, the strikers were missing a lot of chances. One thing i am happy about was that we conceded lesser goals this season. Soon our performance started to turn out for the better and slowly we were climbing up the table. First we broke into the play-off places and then forced ourselves in into 2nd place. We were unable to catch up with Wolves who walked away with the title but we managed to secure promotion finishing 2nd place and Thurrock will be playing Premiership football next season. We finally made it and will be pitting ourselves against the elites come next season.
